FoodBook: Bread Yard

Quietly located within the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Bread Yard was an incredibly amazing gem to find.

I spent a few days helping my sister complete her models for her Studio finals, and whilst I was there, my sister mentioned eating at "bread yard" a few times. The name was deceptively simple, so I dismissed it, thinking it was just another neighbourhood bread bakery. However, on the day that I finally decided to go down to try it, I was pleasantly surprised!

The cafe, though located at an unconventional place, was brightly-lit and thoughtfully decorated; it was minimal, but sufficient. Towering windows allowed the afternoon sun to stream in, giving the small space a very cosy and warm feel.

The food was served on little plastic trays, akin to fast food restaurants, but they came lined with totally-photogenic paper (kind of felt like baking paper) instead of the usual tacky, flashy advertisements. We had to pay for our bill at the till first, before we collected our food and this system saved us poor students from having to pay additional (and pocket-burning) service charge!

We both had the Eggs Bettino, and it was uh. may. zing. Perfect bread, perfect ham, almost-perfect egg and perfect hollandaise. It was warm, it was generous, it was homely.

Because I thought that Bread Yard might skimp on vegetables (like a lot of cafes do), I opted for a salad at the side. But it was a needless worry, because the Eggs Bettino came with a huge serving of salad. My sister had a mashed potato instead, and it is definitely the better option. Warm, fluffy, and with lots of gravy. Go for the mash guys!!!!!

Their flat white wasn't as spectacular - a little too strong for my liking. But my sister suggested that it could be because they had to cater to the SUTD students (who barely sleep) hahah. Oh man, feeling blessed about my choice of study now. Well, if Bread Yard came to NUS that is.

Festive Feels

Looking similar here...

Tare/Liao ladies! (that's our whatsapp group name)

Merry Christmas everyone!!! :D
I had a wonderful Christmas this year; spent the lovely day with Angie 姨姨, her husband Zen. my 阿姨妈咪, Sis, her boyfriend and CJ! It was a cosy affair at Aunt Angie's house (theme was red/white - seemed more like a National Day gathering) with movies, pizzas, air-fried sotong balls and BAGEL.

Not the french bread Bagel, but my 阿姨妈米's chihuahua, Bagel! :D
He's a silly little dog who is super needy for affection, and who tried to lighten the mood when we were watching a gory movie by dragging his stuffed duck to the living room and mutilating it while the scary movie music played hahahahah.

Also, I'm very thankful for all the gifts my loved ones bought for me; I received an amazing nail polish set, foot masks I'd been dying to get, a lovely Revlon lip stain in the most beautiful colour, and sparkly eyeliner! Yay!!! :D

Little Christmas gatherings like these are the best, I think.
Away from the crowds, away from the noise; just a small family together, and a lot of love :)

Christmas Traditions

All photos taken and post-processed by budding photographer Deshawn (and his tripod haha)! :)

Met up with some 1810ers for a Christmas lunch earlier in the afternoon! It was a small affair, six of us at Canopy @ Bishan Park for some yummy food and gift exchange :D

I, of course, am not over my eggs benedict obsession and ignored the rest of the menu. Chek also gave me her fish roe from her eggs otaku plate! Not only did I have more colour on my plate (thus making it much more Instagrammable - sigh this is becoming an illness), but I also got salmon roe. Free, guys. Free roe. *rubs hands gleefully*

Canopy is an incredibly scenic place, and it was quiet, which is something you can hardly find in the hustle and bustle of the more popular cafes. The food was rather reasonably priced too (save the $21 pasta lolol), and it was really delightful to be able to spend a nice, cosy afternoon with old friends :) Too bad the service was... ugh.

Went to town with CJ to do some last minute shopping after lunch!

I really love Christmas; everyone seems happier, kinder, warmer. It's as though the entire cold, cold population of Singapore learnt the meaning of the word "happy" and decided to spread it. I could see more smiles, hear more laughter, smell more food. The actions of selfless buying and gifting, as well as spreading cheer and merriment are incredibly powerful, and I really wish we could all be like this more often :) More smiles, more laughter, more happiness.

Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year.

Merry Christmas everyone, and may you have lots of yummy food, meet lots of nice people, and spread lots of kindness!!!!! :D

BOTTOM: Pull & Bear
SHOES: Mom's
CJ'S STUFF: No idea

Took these photos a long while back, somewhere along the allies of Old Tiong Bahru. CJ and I drove there to try Drips Bakery (which wasn't very nice.... should have tried The Dispensary or Plain Vanilla instead!!! Gaaaah. Nvm, shall head there with my TT girls!) and we spotted these allies whilst hiking to Drips. Naturally, I forced him we stopped to take some shots! :D

The top I bought a while ago from Delane's blogshop, SOLID. It's a pretty versatile piece and I've been wearing it for almost everything hahaha. I had to re-sew the gold wings though, they came slightly skewed to one side so I had to re-adjust it.

The skirt I LOVE. It was $59 from P&B and is actually not very easy to match, BUT IT'S FLORAL. AND TRUMPET-FLARE. AND F L O R A L! I MUST HAZ IT!!!!!! *deranged*

Going to see the babies soon (they're not babies anymore Cheryl, stop lying to yourself), and bring them to Ikea!! :D Can't wait, I haven't seen them in ages!!!!!! I have a blogpost on them waiting to be published, and looks like I'm going to have another one soon hehehehe. *deranged and baby-obsessed*

IPHONOGRAPHY: October 2013

Continuing from my September iPhonography post, this is a summary of the wonderful, family-and-friends filled October :)

It felt incredibly satisfying to edit these pictures, because even if the quality wasn't that good this time round, the memories were kept fresh, and the happiness I felt then seemed to linger in the air somehow. Made my day scrolling through these pictures ^^

Anyway, this post is so backdated because this semester was crammed with projects. Madness I tell you; little kids who are going to do PFM, beware of year 2 sem 1! Hahaha. After project season, finals-prep kicked into full gear and this had to be put in the backseat. Oh well. Now, finals are over! Results will be out on the 24th of December, so.... fingers crossed that all my friends (and I) will do well!! :)

Right. Digressing to studies.

October 2013, through iPhone lens - A month of friends, family and just, being happy :)

2D1N korean BBQ

First thing from October was Charis' Birthday Dinner! I miss my table tennis girls a lot, all throughout JC and then much of uni year 1, I wasn't able to meet up with my secondary school friends much.  It's a really lonely and depressing feeling, and now I'm just really glad I have them still :)

Spontaneous cafe trips

October was one of those honeymoon months, where we could go anywhere we pleased and stay out till whenever we liked, but still manage to submit tutorials and assignments on time. I'm really happy I decided to spend more time with friends instead of fussing over minute details in my school work or hall things.

Friends, people. Treasure your friends.

Also (like any other typical Singaporean girl who likes to take pictures of her food more than actually eat it), I LOVE CAFES!!
Just being in one makes me feel a little bit happier about life already *contentment face*
If only they could be a little less pricey. Then I'd be a lot more happy about life.

Sentosa with the Tubbers

I also spent more time with my Tubbers this month :)
I've been neglecting them because school because I've been a really turd friend who didn't set aside enough time for them, and didn't bother initiating outings :( If I could redo those moments of naive and bad decision-making, I really would. Trying to make up for lost time by being with them more now.

Once again, friends, people. Always treasure your friends.

Sunrise at the barrage

Not forgetting the one and only haha. We've been arguing a lot more since our proclamation of "honeymoon period never ends if you don't let it!!!11!1!" so many months ago, but in a way, I'm kind of glad we did? For growth you know. And nothing's ever realistic if you don't let it grow.

Sunrise taken at the barrage, when we drove a lorry around Singapore to help our SPT friends with their annual night cycling event :)

Spending time with the family

So my aunt from Austria came to stay, and we've been going out a lot. Popo sponsored my crazy shopping spree at Vivo (still feeling kind of guilty about it heheh) and also, lots of good food! Yum. Hope I can do the same for them when I start working :) Family's important, and I wonder why it took me so long to realize this.

Silly friends from hall

These nutters are so damn entertaining hahaha. Taken during Eusoff's Talent Night, where Hamin, Dan and Casey drank before their item. They had to dress up as girls, and with a bit of a lot of alcohol, they all transformed into Intoxicated Korean-Ahjumma Hamin, Drunk Straw-Hat Dan, and Curvy Tube-Dress Casey. Fun!

Cherish what you have :)

So that's about it for my October days :)
(November pictures are being edited, but it was such a stressful month that I doubt it's going to be as amazing haha.)

Quite a short post, given that it was project season in October and neither my notes nor my books were interesting enough to snap pictures of. But it was still an immensely satisfying and wonderful month, and I'm really thankful I spent October 2013 surrounded with friends and family :D

Always, always cherish what you have, and you'll be a lot happier :)
